One big trial in China. No US approval yet.

Safety data in peopleLimited

About 600 people in the main trial.

These are 3 different questions. FDA status is about the law. Proof is about whether it works. Safety data is about how much we know about its risks. A lack of safety data does not mean it does not work, and "not approved" does not mean "illegal."

What is it?

Mazdutide is a lab-made peptide medicine. It acts on two body signals that control hunger and sugar: GLP-1 and glucagon. Eli Lilly made it. A company called Innovent sells it in China.

Why do people use it?

People are interested because it showed strong weight loss in big tests in China.

Does it really work?

In a 48-week study of 610 Chinese adults with obesity or overweight, people on the higher dose lost about 14% of their body weight on average. People on a fake shot (placebo) did not lose weight. It is already approved in China. In the US, Lilly has finished a smaller mid-stage (phase 2) study. It is not approved in the US.

Is it safe? Side effects

  • In the big China study, the most common problems were in the stomach, and most were mild to medium.
  • The FDA warns that unapproved GLP-1 type drugs sold online may be fake or unsafe.

Banned in sports? Drug tests

Not named, but may be banned.

Mazdutide is not named on WADA’s list. It is approved in China, so the "not approved anywhere" rule (S0) may not fit. But WADA says its list is not complete. Ask USADA before you use it.
