Can peptides tighten loose skin after weight loss?
- Not that anyone has shown. We found no study of any peptide for loose skin after weight loss.
- People online often say GHK-Cu helped them. Those are stories, not tests. Skin can also slowly change on its own after weight loss.
- A 2026 review of 64 GHK-Cu papers said studies in people are "thin and fragmented." Most were small tests of face creams.
Does GHK-Cu tighten skin?
- GHK-Cu is a tiny peptide joined with copper. It is in many skin creams.
- In lab and animal tests, it helped skin make collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm.
- In people, proof is weak. In a 2006 study of 13 people after laser skin treatment, experts saw no clear change in wrinkles with GHK-Cu creams. People using it did say they were happier with their skin.
- No study tested GHK-Cu on loose belly, arm or leg skin after big weight loss.
Do GHK-Cu injections work for loose skin?
- Nobody knows. NPR reported in September 2026 that there is no data from published human studies showing GHK-Cu shots are safe or work.
- Doctors NPR spoke to said they tell patients to hold off on injecting it.
- Most GHK-Cu shots are bought online from unregulated sellers, so you cannot know what is really in the vial.
- GHK-Cu shots are not FDA approved. Creams are sold as cosmetics, which do not need FDA approval before sale.
Why do you get loose skin after weight loss?
- When you lose a lot of weight, the skin that stretched to cover it does not always shrink back.
- Reviews for skin and plastic surgeons say fast weight loss on GLP-1 drugs like Wegovy and Zepbound has raised worries about loose skin and lost face volume.
- A 2026 review says about 25% to 30% of the weight lost on GLP-1 drugs is lean tissue, which includes muscle, not just fat.
Does Ozempic cause loose skin?
- Not directly. The FDA labels for Wegovy and Zepbound do not list loose skin as a side effect.
- But they cause big weight loss, and big weight loss of any kind can leave loose skin.
- The Wegovy and Zepbound labels do list hair loss as a common side effect.
What actually helps loose skin after weight loss?
- Surgery: a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes extra skin and fat. Doctors often use it after very big weight loss. It is real surgery with real risks.
- Muscle: a 2026 review says people who lose weight fast, eat too little protein and skip strength training are at higher risk of losing muscle.
- Time: ask your doctor how long to wait after your weight is steady before thinking about surgery.
- A skin doctor (dermatologist) or board-certified plastic surgeon can tell you what fits your skin.
Is GHK-Cu safe and legal?
- Creams: sold as cosmetics. We found no big safety study of them.
- Shots: not FDA approved. They were on the FDA's risky "Category 2" compounding list until April 2026. Leaving that list is not an approval.
- NPR says an FDA advisory panel plans to look at GHK-Cu shots again in February 2027.
- Not FDA approved does not mean illegal to own. It means nobody checked that it works or is safe for this use.

FAQ
What peptide is best for loose skin?
None is proven. GHK-Cu is the one people talk about most, but it was never tested for loose skin after weight loss.
Can GHK-Cu get rid of loose skin on my stomach?
No study shows that. Creams and shots cannot remove extra skin. Only surgery removes it.
Does collagen powder tighten skin?

Will my skin tighten on its own?
Some skin may firm up a little over time, but extra skin after very big weight loss often stays. Ask a dermatologist.
Is loose skin a side effect of Zepbound?
It is not on the label as a side effect. It comes from the weight loss itself.
